Watch this space!!!!!!
My latest journey was from 16th Dec 2016 to 18th Jan 2017, a whole month exploring. I visited the Islands off the coast of Thailand, Surin and Taratau, beautiful, just like the movies, with white sand and clear blue water. Heaven. Did lots of snorkelling around there and wondered at the fabulous colours of the coral and fish. I am going to invest in a good underwater camera for my next trip. Any suggestions? After the islands i travelled to Pra Ae (Long Beach) on Koh Lanta and watched the fireworks and chinese lanterns of New Year celebrations. I don't agree with the Chinese lanterns myself as the wire parts cause damage to the environment and are hazardous to the fish. But I have to say the sight of hundreds of lanterns floating out over the sea by moonlight was magical. After relaxing on Koh Lanta I travelled to Laos and to the World Heritage site Luang Probang. I lodged in a traditional house opposite a temple (there are hundreds of temples in LP) and in the morning I was woken by the sound of monks chanting their thanks for the daily food offerings given by the locals. Wandering the streets of LP was a peaceful experience. I wonder if it because of the monks meditating daily, that combined energy, but the whole town is restful and at ease. Even the traffic is slower! The orange of the monks robes is a common on the streets, as is bunches of young monks giggling and pushing each other as they emerge from the teachings. The food here is good too due to the cross matching of Laos and French styles. Croissants and coconut pancakes sit side by side. The highlight of my trip was visiting the paper making village and buying paper made from banana leaves and elephant dung! This bundle of paper was my "baby" all the way home, through security checks and long haul flights. Home now I have the paper in my studio, still rolled, I am too excited to unwrap it yet, I need to breathe and then open myself to the new creations which will emerge on this special paper.
Watch this space!!!!!! "Two Artists-Three Continents" is an exhibition of new work by Dorothy Morris and myself. The work reflects our feelings and experiences of travelling in Asia, Africa and Europe.
Originally we had a week in London at the Bhavan Centre, now the pictures are hanging in the Greenspace Gallery, Carmarthen until the end of March. I am holding a demonstration of paper mache bird making, along with Big Bird, later this month. Maybe I will see you there? I |
